word of the day: plot

King Henry IV

from dictionary.com:

plot: a secret plan or scheme to accomplish some purpose, esp. a hostile, unlawful, or evil purpose: a plot to overthrow the government.

Once again, an editor at the Brooklyn Daily Eagle “writes” an editorial about Atlantic Yards, and I just cannot let this drivel go without a response. (Read about their previous “editorial” here.)

This time, Dennis Holt, in his Brooklyn Broadside, Atlantic Yards Closing: A Long Time Coming, attempts to wax poetically about the long, strange 6-year trip it’s been.  In the past, the editors haven’t shown much concern about “facts” and “figures” and pesky “details” when it comes to Atlantic Yards (and unfortunately, most of the rest of the media hasn’t done much better), and Mr. Holt predictably continues in these reality-challenged ways.

But, surprisingly, perhaps accidentally, he does manage to characterize the Atlantic Yards scheme rather concisely and accurately when he talks about the atmosphere at the announcement event in December, 2003:

The emotion was so high that it wouldn’t have been too shocking if someone had quoted this line from Shakespeare’s King Henry IV: “A good plot, good friends and full of expectation; an excellent plot, very good friends.”

Yes, this is a very excellent plot.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.
